About
Welcome to Nooks & Coves!
If you love nature and get disheartened by the state of things, you’ve come to the right place.
N&C is dedicated to our beautiful, threatened natural environments, and to the brave advocates who stand up to protect them.
Beyond Bucket Lists & Instagrammability
Did you know that more than 75% of the planet’s land surface has been damaged?
Or that nearly 90% of the world’s wetlands have been destroyed over the past 300 years?
The ecosystems sustaining all life on earth are disappearing at alarming rates. We have very few of them left, and they all matter. Including “undeveloped land” in the suburbs, or crucial habitat squished between buildings and roads.
Even if they’re not home to a known endangered species (yet). Even if they’ve been damaged by industrial activity. Even if they’re small.
About Me
My name is Sophie Arbour. I’m the creator of N&C.
My reverence for nature sparked from daily walks in parks, which inevitably made me feel light, at peace, and hopeful.
After completing a specialized graduate diploma in media, culture and technology at the University of Montreal, I became a communications coordinator for a national conservation charity.
Two years later, I decided to pursue independent writing.
Articles on N&C are all by me.
